Below are some examples of common violations, but many regulations change. We encourage you to read the permits issued by each county so you can be aware of any nuances that may give you a pressure point.
Examples of violations that are easy to spot:
1. Lack of black plastic screening and/or orange netting – required in a construction area once ground is broken (Common Violations #12-14)
2. Breach of the 100 ft right of way (50 ft on each side) denoted by blue/white survey stakes and flags marking the limits of the construction area – for example, if they drive equipment outside of the markers denoting the easement (Common Violation #4)
3. No signage at entrance – signage should specify any endangered species. If you see any endangered species but no signs, take pictures of both.
4. Improper use of construction access roads, clearing crew going off the right of way
5. Dust plumes due to construction equipment
6. Construction vehicles parked on public property and not in designated construction areas
7. Trucks tracking mud from construction sites to public roads or outside of construction areas
8. Brush and wood chips other waste from excavation site not in permitted construction areas
9. Lack of signalers directing traffic on roads or trails
10. Workers without proper safety gear (hard hats)
11. Lack of required construction vehicles. For example a pump truck in case of spill, water trucks, etc.
Note: these may only be required for certain parts of construction so check with county commissioners for permit requirements.
